COPY. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} for Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} R8/IB7415. April 7th. 1915. Re Starting Apparatus. The particulars with reference to the starting motor are very urgent indeed, and amongst other things we want to know the exact weight of the machine, without any gearing. A quick test would be to find the volts that will run it at about 2800 revs. we quess 33 volts, and find if it will bear enough current to make it give 1.5 to 2.0 HP. but the score losses at this speed may be too great so that it might rapidly overheat even with a small current, this may be due to imperfect separation of the armature plates.
