1. The nature of work.
To fit packing washers in flange of starter motor, when found necessary to make engagement of pinion more definite, & to minimise damage to teeth on flywheel (See Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/NRC{N. R. Chandler}7/EW21.12.25 attached).
2. The cost, and reason for repairing free.
Cost not def. estimated as drwgs. not complete, but cost of material would not exceed 5/- & labour about 5 hours.
3. What steps have been taken to prevent its being included in present-day chassis, or whether the matter will be reconsidered in ......... months, whilst experiments are being made.
Instructions are being issued to insure new chassis being correct in this respect.
4. What total number of chassis is affected, and their Series Nos.?
Might apply to any existing 20-HP. chass.
5. What number of these it is expected we shall have to do this work on?
Suggest 50% or 650 chassis.
6. The total cost.
About £420, probably less.
7. For what period is it considered we should carry out this work free of charge, before we charge the customer for part or all of the work?
Till expiration of guarantee.
8. What Officials have arrived at the above decision?
BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} NRC.{N. R. Chandler}
9. Has R.{Sir Henry Royce} been informed and agreed?
Not thought worth troubling R.{Sir Henry Royce}
10. Is it considered desirable that Depots should be informed of the decision in this matter?
Yes, suggested memo to Depots attached.
11. What (if any) other work may be necessary due to consequential damage?
New gear ring on flywheel may occasionally be necessary owing to damaged teeth but it is not anticipated that this will be a frequent or common occurrence.
