X.2512. To Mr. Ellis from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to EH. c. to BJ. R17/W27.8.17. X.2814. X.1819. X.2512. X 3761 X.3129. RE BATTERY IGNITION. You will remember that I have asked you to convert the battery ignition on 7-CA to the non-trembler type, using our own coil or the Remy, as may be found to suit the engine. It will be necessary when using the Remy coil for the break period to be not more than 20° of the 60° allowed for each cylinder. The contact will, therefore, be made over 40°, or of the total period two-thirds will be circuit closed, and one-third circuit open. The cam of the contact maker will need to be advanced relative to the engine and relative to the distributor, the break taking place just before the distributor contact arm is opposite a contact. I particularly want you to test whether the wire from the dashboard to the contact maker, which naturally somewhat affects the condenser, lessens the secondary spark at the plugs or gives any greater tendency to spark at the contact maker. You can ascertain this by making the condenser portable and locating it first on the dashboard and then on the arm of the engine near the contact maker. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
