Letter from The Fellows Gear Shaper Company requesting more information and parts to proceed with manufacturing cutters for the Wraith III and Phantom III units.

In order for us to proceed with the manufacture and development of cutters for cutting the Wraith III Unit, we must have more information. The prints sent in with your letter did not give the working ratio of the unit, the number of degrees in which the roller shaft rotates from its center position, nor information as to the location of the worm and roller. Therefore, kindly have this information sent to us at once, including a detail of the roller carrier itself, and an assembly drawing of the roller and worm assembled in the housing. If the roller is adjusted in a manner similar to the Phantom III, kindly give us the dimensions from the centre line of the roller to the center line of the worm, this being the height above the center line. This dimension on the Phantom III was .250. We should have a sample roller assembled in its shaft to use as a master for the developing the worm cutters. If the customer has a sample worm that gives them the clearance they wish in the different position of rotation, kindly have them send this in for our use. We should have approximately twenty-five worm blanks of each model to test the machine and cutters, as we have no equipment here for broaching the holes. These worm blanks should be completed to the point of cutting the worm thread. If there have been any changes in either the worm blank, the roller, or the roller shaft since we developed cutters and sent sample worms, kindly send us new prints of these parts. As soon as we have received the above information, we shall proceed at once to manufacture and develop the cutters.
