COPY. X.4342 S S. SMITH & SONS (M.A.) LTD. CENTRAL WORKS. EDGWARE ROAD, CRICKLEWOOD. N.W.2. 7th June 1921. Your Ref: DA {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /THR3/CB3-6-21. Our Ref: ACL/MM. Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd. Nightingale Road, Derby. Dear Sirs, X.4342 S for the attention of Mr B.I. Day. Re Dynamo for Goshawk II Engine. With regard to your favour of the 3rd inst., which was acknowledged by our Sales Department, we have received the blue prints you mention, and as soon as we receive your official order we will at once put the dynamo in hand. The figure 7.125 given on your drawing No.D.50011 is quite correct, and we find that the end bracket shown on your drawing No.D.50004 satisfactorily clears the armature winding. With reference to the limits on the outside diameter of the dynamo carcase, we should be glad to know what limits you require us to work to. Starter for Goshawk II Engine. In connection with this starter, we confirm that you are sending us a complete starter shaft on which we are to build up the core, fit the commutator and wind the armature. Also, that you are supplying the bearing bracket for the driving end complete with ball bearing and clamping ring, and that we are to fit the armature and the bearing bracket to one of our standard SS {S. Smith} starters. We have already pointed out on several occasions we do not think this starter will turn the engine, and we are supplying the starter with this proviso for you to experiment with. Yours faithfully, p.p. S. Smith & Sons (M.A.) Ltd. Sgd. Archibald C. Lock. Manager Electrical Dept., | ||
