Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}6/N.10.2.39. Petrol Tank Support - Bentley Cresta. --------------------------------- On PD.375 herewith we shew the 18½ gallon Corniche petrol tank fitted to the Bentley Cresta chassis without modification. We have moved the body joint of the tank to a position which is suitable to both chassis, and details of the Corniche tank should be modified accordingly. It is possible to use a forward support exactly as shewn on our PD.335. It has been suggested that such a support leaves the hinge pin of the shoe free to rattle unless it be made a close fit. We do not see how this can be as the tension of the upper strap pulls the tank against the shoe and the shoe against the hinge pin. However, as an alternative we have shewn a scheme requested by Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} whereby the pull of the lower strap is taken on the fixed bracket, so that the load in the lower strap forces the tank against the shoe also. We cannot see that this is necessary to prevent rattles and to allow the shoe axis pin to have a punched clearance hole. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
