Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 361 Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}5/G.2.11.37. Re: 3-AZ-38. Ex. P.111 TRIALS. TOTAL MILEAGE 33,750. RC.{R. Childs}1/L/26.10.37. It appears that in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 11/9.7.37. you asked for an opportunity to try the above car for clutch and oil consumption. In the meantime a "Long" clutch plate has been fitted, which has been very satisfactory and still functions excellently, both forward and in reverse. Date 26.8.37. Mileage since fitting 3,000. According to RC.{R. Childs} of Lillie Hall, the oil consumption is 800 M.P.G. Checked over our standard run to Weedon, since return to the Works, the consumption works out at 711 M.P.G. Close clearance valves have not been fitted, and the car has run nearly 33,000 miles since cylinder heads were removed. There is very little detonation. The engine is very quiet under all conditions, and no signs of piston knocks starting from cold. The car has been handed to the Repair Department to be put in good condition for sale. I have arranged with Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} to inspect the bottom tappets as soon as possible. [Signature] | ||
