Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} Derby. C. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Derby. EpP. " WHP. London. X5030 Pt. 6/FM-31/3/27. Mr. Appleby in charge of Sydney repair depot is still complaining that he has had several cases of 20 H.P. engines which when dismantled have been found to have the oil leads in the connecting rods between the big end and the gudgeon pin entirely blocked up with what appears to be carbonaceous matter. This is a very serious state of things which does not appear to have arisen elsewhere as I have been in communication with Ford of Melbourne who states that he has never experienced any trouble of this nature. I think, however, it is imperative that your attention should be drawn to this as we are entirely unable to account for this state of things here. I might say that the owners of the cars in question have most religiously adhered to our instructions regarding the make and quality of oil to be used, though they may have perhaps run for a longer period than they should have without changing same. However, it should be impossible I think, if the filters are in order, for these pipes to become blocked up. Pt. [Overlaid stamped text] COPY | ||
