X4840. RICARDO SLEEVE VALVE ENGINE. REPORT ON 2 HOURS ACCEPTANCE TEST FOR MODIFIED CYLINDER BLOCKS, WATER HEADER ETC. The above engine has been rebuilt after its failure on Type Test with the new parts necessitated by the failure :- A.6. { Piston. { Cylinder Head. { Sleeve. { Conn. Rod. Whilst the following new parts have been fitted as modifications :- Cylinder Blocks. Water Headers. - and the connecting rod bearings have been replaced due to cracking. Two modifications were incorporated in the new cylinder blocks, one being the stiffening up of the cylinder round the ports, and the other being the provision of auxiliary studs for securing the water header in order to overcome the persistent leaking which has been experienced at the water header/cylinder block joint. New water headers were necessary to accomodate the new auxiliary securing studs. An additional modification which was incorporated was to fit new spark plug adaptors to the cylinder heads to take 14 m.m. plugs. In accordance with contract procedure after overhauling the engine was put up for a 2 hours acceptance test. Conditions of Test. Fuel D.T.D.134 Oil - Triple Shell. Plugs - Lodge A.15 - 14 m.m. Mag.
