X4580 Expl: Dept: 21st. Jan. 1926. Engine Research Section, Royal Aircraft Est., South Farnboro', Hants. Dear Mr. Wood, We are very interested in the R.A.E. Report No. E.1701 on Performance of Condor 111. Engine. In all the tests taken here with your Indicator the explosion pressure appeared to be in the neighbourhood of 510 lbs/sq.in. Mr. Rowledge is therefore interested re. his Connecting Rod design in the reduced pressure of 450 lbs/sq.in. which you give. He wonders how many cylinders the Indicator Diagram represents and whether you feel quite certain on this point. He also wonders whether you have any analysis of Mechanical Losses i.e. whether the pump losses were separated from the friction losses in any of the tests. You will recollect in the Indicator tests you took here, the mechanical efficiency came out about 84%. This however could be attributed to a small inaccuracy in the timing of the Indicator. If you could give me any unofficial information on these points to save the endless red-tape which must otherwise be incurred, I should be very grateful. Yours faithfully, | ||
