Modifications to a silencer's intermediate pipe based on dynamometer test findings.

The above sketch shows disposition of the four transverse silencer baffles E.74339.

It was found on dynamometer test that the inter-mediate pipe 'A' expanded backwards and the rear end of it pushed against the cutout elbow, breaking it off at the flange. It will be necessary to shorten this so that it can expand .250" before the rear end becomes flush with the silencer end; to accommodate this it will also be necessary to lengthen the end flange E.74333 in order to support the intermediate pipe when it is cold. The maximum expansion of this pipe is .250"; provision therefore should be made to accommodate this.
