OIL CONSUMPTION FOR EAC. ENGINE. X8980 X8040 We attach curves which shew the oil consumption taken from two EAC. engines on the test bench. It will be seen that the consumption increases very considerably with the speed. In the case of 3-EAC-11 engine, after carrying out these tests, we removed the rings and modified the existing rings and made them 'L' shaped rings. It will be seen that the reduction in consumption after this modification is very marked. We have also tested a set of new pistons with the relief bands under each ring. They had only 4 rings instead of 5 as on the standard pistons. The consumption for this is shewn. At the present time we are running tests on 6-EAC-11 engine in which we have fitted 'L' shaped rings to confirm the reduction in oil consumption. We have also modified the rings with the relief band underneath each ring. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} has also given us a further sketch of a piston with 5 rings and each of the rings are scrapers. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
