Copy of Mr. Shepard's report on accident to 35 PK at Vigneux-sur-Barangeon, Cher, France, on August 13th, 1924.

While driving 35 PK on the afternoon run on August 13th, I was proceeding from VIERZON along the Bourges road and was approaching a slight right hand bend. On nearing the bend I took my foot off the accelerator pedal, and applied the foot brake with a gentle pressure, at the same time pulling the steering round.

The surface of the road at this place was of a very loose nature, and the car developed a four-wheel skid, from which I was powerless to alter its direction of motion.

First, the N.S. front wheel struck and mounted the grass kerb, about 6" or 8" high, on the left hand side of the road, and the whole car followed in the same direction, running down the river bank and finishing up on its right hand side. The depth of the water was only about 6", and the bed of the river was very stony.

Crofts, who was with me at the time of the accident, and myself were thrown clear of the car, and scraped along the bottom of the river.
