To OY. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X7300 R2/M2.10.26. PHANTOM CLUTCH. X.7300 X.8300 We have many times thought of trying a serrated drive on the clutch coupling shaft, but feared to try one. Firstly, we were not aware of any trouble with the existing coupling wearing, and secondly, we should be very pleased if the serrated drive will stand more work and neglect. We think it would be as well in your tests if you put the gearbox purposely out of line the amount that is likely to occur in practice. We have modified the original joint to make it shorter in length, lighter, and simpler to make. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will report as to whether we have had trouble with this coupling. If not, we can only assume that it must have been incorrectly in the first instance. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
