126 2. Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}1/MH.{M. Huckerby} 27th. June, 1939. Messrs. Hardy Spicer & Co. Ltd., Witton, BIRMINGHAM. For the attention of J.A.Daniell, Esq. Dear Sirs, We have tested the two divided propellor shafts which you balanced and straightened for us when we visited you recently. The first shaft which was deliberately and carefully straightened by you cannot be detected at any speed on the car. The second shaft which you had originally intended should not be straightened but which eventually was corrected approximately, is greatly improved but not 100%. In view of the above results we have decided that the following limits must be imposed on these divided shafts - (a) Nose piece at rear end of front shaft must run within 0.001 clock reading when mounted in its own bearing. (b) Both ends of both shafts must be within 0.25 in.ozs. balance If you have no facilities for maintaining condition (a) above, will you please supply the nose pieces with machining allowance so that we can do the work here. We should be glad if you would let us know your reactions to the above conditions so that we can make any necessary arrangements at this end. | ||
