MANAGING DIRECTOR YOUR REF: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems} 10/AP. OUR REF: RLK/NK. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited. DERBY. 27th September 1937. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Dixon. We beg to thank you for your letter of the 24th inst. We will give you a report on the two pumps concerned when they come to hand. The previous rollers were tested with a ring gauge both by putting through edgewise and flatwise, and thus it would seem that since they would not pass through the "no go", they must have been non-spherical on the edge and elliptical as well. We will however, check up the other ones you are sending in carefully. We certainly think it will be desirable to check the high pressure pumps under pressure conditions and we are arranging to do so in future. Do you think it desirable to do this at 5 ft lift or any other height on paraffin. There is no reason at all why the vent hole should not be drilled at the lowest point, that is alongside one of the studs. The only reason why it has always been where it is at present is that originally you used standard pots and these were drilled on our jig. Will you kindly let us know therefore, if you would like us to alter our drawings. We are checking pumps as they go through now for valve lift, and we will certainly keep them above 20 thou. In the main they come out fairly consistently at about 25 thou. -1- | ||
