Dec 31st. 1926.

Dear Sirs,

Ref. Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} /AW14/N.301226

We are much obliged for your letter of 30th. with regard to the test carried out with our Filter, and have carefully studied the report from your Experimental Department.

It so happens that our Chief Engineer will be coming to the Midlands next week, and we are arranging for him to run over to DERBY on Thursday or Friday to discuss this matter with you, because we feel this would be better than dealing with the matter by correspondence.

Without knowing under just what conditions the tests were carried out, or the amount of foreign matter that was used, it is very difficult to pass any comment, but of course if the Zenith filter is more efficient than the gauze one, it is only natural it would get clogged up more quickly.

We have carried out similar tests on the bench, but have found that they did not anywhere near approximate the conditions on the road.

Our experience on the road shows that our standard filter under ordinary conditions ought to run for four or five years without any need to clean out the bowl, and it is not possible to make a comparison on the performance of the filter on the bench.

In any case we hope it will be convenient for you to see our representative towards the end of the week, as we feel it is much more satisfactory to discuss this matter verbally.

Thanking you in anticipation of your courtesy.

We remain,

Yours faithfully,

TLT/B.
