4009 To. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/McS CHATEAUROUX. 3/9.8.39. I4.B.V. Hand Ignition Control. Further to our memo 4/30.7.39, and in reply to your Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/R.I.8.39, we proceeded to try as an alternative, your suggestion of leaving the distributor free to rotate when abnormal engine movement reactions on the control occurred. We prepared a special locating screw for the distributor with no peg on it which could be substituted for the existing peg screw which forms the stop limiting the range of advance and retard. We then put the ignition control back exactly to standard with the intention of substituting the screws directly the trouble of jumping the notches occurred. During 265 miles running however, no trouble occurred nor were we able to make it jump by violent braking. We are at a loss to give an explanation of the disappearance of the trouble. Everything seemed correct when the original linkage was dismantled. --------- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} [Signature] | ||
