S.S. HEADLAMP BRACKETS

With reference to item 6. on HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/LG
31.1.29., we conclude that the principle flexibility is
in the tubes which are now rather tall and may be too slender.

We therefore suggest on N. sch. 2833. herewith that
they should be increased in diameter from 1.250 to
1.625, the resulting increase of stiffness being rather
more than two and a half times. We also suggest that
the forging at the bottom should be slightly modified
to improve its appearance.

We have seen a photograph of the stays to
the wings which we believe you are fitting to most of
the cars, and the principle objection we see in them is
that they are not practical from a coachbuilding point
of view. We do not like the idea of a stay between the
two lamps. We have been trying to avoid lines crossing
the radiator. We presume from the fact that these stays
are efficacious that the flexibility of the frame is not
the principle trouble.
