F 235 a (100 T) (R.F. 846. 6-8-19) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2460 C O P Y. LETTER FROM:- THE LUCAS ELECTRICAL COMPANY LTD, WELL STREET, BIRMINGHAM. Our Ref:- CLB/GD. Your Ref:- Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}11/NJ21520. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, D E R B Y. 29th May 1920. Dear Sirs, X.4060 For the Attention of Mr. Whitehead. L.3014 b We thank you for your letter of the 21st inst., referring to the writer's recent visit to you in regard to the Electrical Equipment of your 40/50 h.p. Chassis. We have again been thoroughly into the matter, and suggest that we await your observations of the results of your tests on the new Machine before proceeding any further. We trust you will be able to let us have this at an early date. Subject to your satisfactory report, we shall proceed with the jigs and tools for the manufacture of this machine but it will be special for your requirements, and it must be understood that it will have a special Commutator, Armature, Brush Gear and Terminal Make-Off. We feel confident that we can make this Machine to be very suitable to your requirements, and we would agree to delivering the standard E.575 Machine until the new one is ready. In regard to Price:- You will readily appreciate that making this Machine for a quantity of 1,000 only or less will necessitate an increase in Price beyond the 15/- suggested by the writer, and we hope you will meet us in this matter. We would remind you that in our present type of machine the rejects are so great and special tests so exacting that our price is inadequate. We have been going carefully into the question of electrical noise, as pointed out by you last week, and in Machines that have been rejected by you for this fault is has been extremely Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
