SPORTS MODEL. X3993

We recommend that we put in hand 7 engines right away of the Sports model. These engines will be allotted as follows :-

1 for R.{Sir Henry Royce} at Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence.
1 " 10,000 miles test.
3 " Sales demonstration.
1 " the test bench.
1 " experimental purposes at Derby.

We do not see that there is much advantage in getting any more than this number through at present. We think there is very little risk as regards the engine being as good as the present Phantom, but it is difficult to say how much better it is going to be. We believe the governing factor as regards the time on this job is going to be obtaining suitable bodies. We think it is practically certain that the body will not go through the 10,000 miles test without certain modifications. We think it would be unwise to order a large number of bodies until we have arrivedat a suitable design.

It is proposed in the design of the Sports body that it shall be practically mounted on a subframe which means that the body can be completed without the chassis therefore the time between the delivery of the chassis to the coachbuilder and the delivery to the customer of the complete car should be greatly reduced. This gives us a little more time in which to prove out our alterations. Most of the alterations proposed for the chassis can be carried out in the same time as the new engine. There
