To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} and Wer. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} SECRET AND CONFIDENTIAL. Jacking System of SpectreCodename for Phantom III. In view of our commitments in respect to the SpectreCodename for Phantom III programme, I have been anxious to find a satisfactory solution to the jacking problem which would provide us with a scheme immediately available for our present requirements of a known satisfactory pattern, and also a scheme of the hydraulic type possessive of sufficiently good and advanced features to last us for some considerable time. The attached memo - E/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}1/HP.14.6.35 gives a resume of the development of this matter, and also shows that we have now two satisfactory schemes, one with D.W.S. screw jacks, and the other with hydraulic operated jacks, to cover our requirements. It will be realised that this two fold policy is necessary because there is no suitable hydraulic scheme in a sufficiently advanced and developed state which will be ready and tested in time for the commencement of our Sales programme. E/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}1/HP.14.6.35. attached.
