TEST DEPARTMENT. OIL RELAY IGNITION GOVERNOR. Ignition settings and oil relay testing. The setting of the ignitions with the oil relay device can be best accomplished as follows :- The control rods being fitted up as detailed on the Gen. Arrgt. - the rod to the magneto sleeve E.72614 should be disconnected and the hand control lever advanced to the last notch on the quadrant. The battery ignition should then be set 20° B.T.C. with .018" gap on the points. Having done this, the hand control lever should be retarded to the last notch on the quadrant and the engine turned over until the distributor points just break. If the controls are correctly assembled this should occur 10° A.T.C. Should the full range of retard not be attainable, the following points should be examined :- (a) It should be ascertained that the eccentric mounting carrying Pin E.72582 is working through the correct angle as specified on the drawing. (b) That there is no slack or back.lash to be felt in lever E.72518 on the oil governor relay. (c) That when the hand control is moved off the quadrant, the required retard can be obtained, shewing that no toggling is occurring, and that the distributor is not at the end of its range and acting as a stop. Having set the battery ignition, the magneto sleeve should be moved round to the fully retard position, and the magneto timed by means of the serrated coupling in proximity to the rear end of the dynamo. contd :- | ||
