-2- Observation on the bump drums does not justify this claim at all. We have tried a modification of our own suspension which gives absolutely parallel wheel action. We have also deliberately arranged errors in our steering geometry. In neither case was wheel fight affected appreciably. Given a certain reversibility in the steering gear, wheel fight appears to depend chiefly on frame frequency. Provided the latter is well above wheel hop frequency, wheel fight appears to be negligible, even when "errors" are deliberately accepted in the movement of the wheel planes. For this reason for successful independent suspension it seems absolutely necessary to make an extremely stiff frame-and-body structure. Maurice Olley. March 15, 1934. | ||
