We are not sure however that this instrument is of any great value for testing such a comparatively soft material as cast iron, but we think, in view of the present trouble, that it might be advisable to obtain a more efficient instrument, and we would suggest the Brinnell Ball tester. Messrs Clement Bayard have one of these in use, with, we believe, satisfactory results. It is of course quite possible that the shorter life of these brake shoes is due to the difference in the quality of the drums and not the shoes at all, and we will keep this point before us in making further investigations into this matter. Experiments are in hand which should enable us to arrive at a definite policy, and we do not intend to let the matter drop This sheet must be filed with the correspondence to which it refers. | ||
