contd: -4- the strengthened differential cross tubes. I find that the stronger tubes are instructed for production but no cars so far have been built up with these stronger tubes which appears to have been due to a misunderstanding between the D.O. and the works. But arrangements have been made for a few sets to be instructed and it is our intention to fix up a set on 7-Goshawk-11. We are trying out the effect of water on the brakes on 7-Goshawk-11 Do you think we are now using the best material for these brakes, as we have now had sent to us some Raybestos pressed brake segments from the Canadian Co, Ltd., and which have been strongly recommend and sent to us for test. We do not propose, however, to bother with these unless I hear otherwise from you. According to your reports of 4-Goshawk-11, it would appear that the material now used is satisfactory. Flats on Rollers. We are fixing up 7-Goshawk-11 with more clearance in the bore of these rollers. Is this as you desire or have you any further comments to make in regard to this matter? Oil leaks from gear box and engine. Are you satisfied that this is satisfactory in connection with 4/5/6-Goshawk-11, and have you considered Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}'s complaint of the oil leak from the back axle, the centre joints and from the bracket drain hole. Battery Box Brackets. Can any definite instructions be given, re. alterations or improvements to these brackets? Clutch squeaks. With reference to the complaints previously made that there was a slight squeak on 7-Goshawk-11 clutch. I have this morning given this clutch a thorough good grueling and the squeak has now disappeared - a point which is also confirmed by TMW. and Mr. Archer since taking the car out. Whether it remain so is yet to be proved, but the clutch in all other respects is certainly very good. Has full advantage been taken on this in the case of the complaint re. squeaking on 5-Goshawk-11 clutch? Carburetter (contd.) In considering alterations for the carburetter I feel that something should be done so as to make the screws for adjustment of the jets more accessible. At present these come right in the way of the connecting link between the two jets adjustment levers and even though the screw is turned round so that the head is on the opposite side, a screw-driver can only be used in one position. Could not the levers of these jets be slightly dropped so that the connecting link above referred to could not come in the way of the screw-driver? EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
