1020a (HD{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} A) To. Messrs. Wellworthy Ltd., To High Duty Alloys Ltd., a.{Mr Adams} to Us. RR/CIT.3/JM.{Mr Morley}21.11.38. Meeting with Representatives from Messrs. High Duty Alloys - Slough. Messrs. Wellworthy Ltd., - Lymington. PURPOSE. To review the present position regarding the trouble they are having in the manufacture of A.C.9 Alloy. PROCEEDINGS. Their main difficulty is concerned with obtaining a satisfactory 'Brinell' hardness figure. It was stated that Wellworthy have had to give as many as three periods of heat treatment of 12 hours each at 180°C. and even then, their hardness figure is not as good as ours after one period of 12 hours at 180°C. It was agreed therefore that Wellworthy should cast a certain number of bearings. One third they should keep, one third should go to H.D.A. Ltd., and one third to RR. We should each then check the analysis of these bearings, heat treat them to the specification laid down, and check Brinell hardness after each period of 12 hours at 180°C. All three sets of results should then be compared, to find who is in error and where. In the meantime we have as agreed at this meeting, compiled a complete summary of procedure for dealing with A.C.9 Alloy. The reason for this is that any information or advice of this kind which has been given has been verbal as well as written, and spread over the whole period during which development of this bearing job has been in progress.
