Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr.Matthews. We duly acknowledge receipt of your communication of the 20th, and immediately put in hand two sets of pistons as requested. We will make every endeavour to let you have these within a fortnight. In connection with the wear of high radila pressure scraper rings, owing to the fact that this ring has the benefit of such oil as there is at this point, it has not been found that the rate of wear is anything like proportional to the pressure. There is no doubt, however, that the use of severe oil control is not calculated to improve the conditions under which the compression rings work, and in consequence, a certain increased wear is to be expected at this point. We hope shortly to let you have the hardened Compression Rings which were referred to at our last meeting, and if the experience of the | ||
