By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.1/KT.6.5.33. PRODUCTION SETTINGS FOR J.III TYPE DAMPERS. --- 25 H.P. The valve chamber, valve, valve spring and cover should be to R.R.Sch.312. The valve is to be drilled so that there is an .065" diam. orifice between the low and high pressure ends of the damper. The ball pin load is to be 70 lbs. on the low pressure stroke. This load must be checked with no hole in the valve. 40/50 H.P. The valve chamber, valve, valve spring and cover should be to R.R.Sch.312. The valve is to be drilled so that there is an .025" diam. orifice between the low and high pressure ends of the damper. The valve is to be raised off its seat by a washer: for the rear dampers a washer .015" thick, and .010" for the front dampers. The load of the dampers before drilling the valves must be 80 lbs. on the low pressure stroke. --- On both 25 H.P. and 40/50 H.P. there should be .010" clearance on the diameter between the top hat of the valve and the cover. This now completes the specification for the J.III type dampers. Will you please order valve and valve chamber parts to this specification for the first 100 25 HP. chassis and first 50 Phantom II.
