ORIGINAL. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/ACL1/LG21.9.27. PHANTOM CONNECTING RODS. X8030 With regard to the proposed lightening of the Phantom conn. rods in order to increase the smoothness of operation of the engine and place the master resonant period further away from the speed range, we find we can, without much difficulty, test the actual Hispano conn. rods on the Phantom engine. The Hispano conn. rods are of tubular construction but at the moment we have no record of the weight of these and it is thought that perhaps some useful information would result from a test made with these conn. rods in our engine. These conn. rods are .300 longer than the Phantom and take 1.275" dia. gudgeon pins. The big ends are the same diameter as our standard rods. We therefore propose, for the purpose of experiment, making some pistons to suit the rods. This can very easily be carried out with pedestal type pistons.
