X1109 COPY OF LETTER RECEIVED FROM:- THE L.P.S. ELECTRICAL CO. AVENUE ROAD, ACTON, LONDON, W.3. FOY8/AG3.12.21. L. 8th December, 1921. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, Derby. Dear Sirs, X.4430. X.1109. We are much obliged by the favour of your letter of the 3rd. instant enquiring for insulating strip. The sample which you sent us is composed of paper strip interleaved with aluminium foil and we are not quite clear from your letter as to whether what you wish us to supply is just Paper Strip to Specification GOY1/AG21221 which you enclose or whether you wish us to supply Insulating Paper or silk strip interleaved with foil in accordance with your sample. The specification deals with paper strip only. There will be no difficulty whatever to supply insulating paper or silk strip to the dimensions specified by you, and we enclose herein some samples of paper we have in stock which you will see correspond to your thickness. We can have similar paper cut up to the widths specified by you within a few days, but if you should require us to supply paper or silk interleaved with aluminium or tin foil it would require specially looking into as we have not done this work before. It will present no difficulty, but we cannot give you a price straight away. You might have better facilities for interleaving the foil, in which case we would prefer to supply the paper or silk strip and foil separately. As regards your enquiry as to what material is most suitable for use in condenser work, we have no hesitation in saying that aluminium foil will be found quite useless and that tin foil is highly efficient. The thickness of tin foil most suitable for 5 ampere capacity is .0015". Insulating varnished paper will give quite good results and insulating silk is better still, and we can quote you for silk and paper strip as follows :- | ||
