"CORNICHE".
CHANGE GEAR LEVER AND HAND BRAKE LEVER.
Please receive herewith G.CD.1378 showing Change Gear Lever and Hand Brake Lever for the above chassis.
This modification is called for because of the great width of the body, especially at the floor level.
The levers generally are the same as for Bentley V.{VIENNA} but both are 4.000 farther from centre line of chassis.
The change gear lever will require a new frame bracket and a longer selector shaft, and it is suggested that the new bracket should be tried without stiffeners in the frame. The front step irons are not required on this class of coachwork, and they are removed to give more clearance for the frame bracket.
The hand brake lever components are unaltered from Bentley V.{VIENNA}, but a new frame bracket is required, together with a longer hand brake shaft.
In order that the hand brake bearing bracket can be made quickly for the first cars, it has been built up from the existing forging with a tubular extension pressed in and pinned.
Modifications may be required to this scheme when the coachwork particulars are to hand, as the parts will require to be fitted without lifting the body. It is desired, however, that detailing should begin, in order to save time. The car is now due in Derby, and will be examined immediately on arrival to ascertain whether any modification is needed. The two parts of hand brake lever bearing housing could, for example, be screwed together in position in the frame, if that were found a convenience in erecting.
