Carburetter - RR. S.U. Type.

The carburetter gave easy starting throughout the mileage. Failure to start after returning was primarily due to the condition of the exhaust valves. We had no trouble through air getting on to the air piston. It was examined on several occasions and although it was lubricated, no sluggishness of sticking was noticeable. The petrol consumption worked out at 14.2 m.p.g. with an average speed of 49.4 m.p.h. for a distance of 170 miles. With lower average speeds 15 m.p.g. was the average consumption. As previously reported, the air silencer broke away where it is rivetted to the down intake. There does not appear to be sufficient metal to retain the rivets. The aluminium rivets apparently stretch. There is also no sufficient depression in the air silencer to breathe the engine sufficiently. The breather was moved to the filler cap of the engine as reported, which gave us approximately 200 miles per gallon decrease on the oil consumption. There was less oil leak from the clutch pit.

Crankshaft Damper.

The damper load was 14 lbs. at 17 3/4" radius at the finish of the mileage. Carbon sludge was prominent on the inside faces. The fabrics were in a good condition.

Water Pump Joint to Cylinder Block.

This joint again leaked. It is not satisfactory and requires modifying.

Fan - Chrysler Type.

The fan was effective at low speeds. It is fairly quiet at high speeds. We did not observe any weakness in the fastening of the blades. The bearings were good.

Dashboard & Brackets, LGP. F.54729.

The bolts holding the dashboard brackets to frame continually became loose, also bolts on strengthening tier for spare wheels came loose.
