C O P Y. Messrs. The Dunlop Rubber Co.Ltd., Fort Dunlop, Erdington, Birmingham. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Nightingale Rd., Derby. 28th. Nov. 1922. dict. 27th. For the attention of Mr. Hives. Dear Sirs, We are obliged for your letter of the 21st. inst. and thank you for the information you are good enough to give us. We are in close touch with the developments in America that are referred to, and think that there will be a future for tyres to fit the 20" wheel as against the 23" wheel such as you are now using. Just at present we have in hand production of some of the smaller sections for the 20" wheel, and propose to put through the 6" tyre at an early date. If, as we gather, you are interested in this, we should like to know if you would like to have some 6" tyres at a fairly early date - if so, we will push forward plant for this size in order to enable you to get tests. Whilst we appreciate the advantages of the ability to use lower pressures with these larger section tyres, tests such as we have already been able to make on other sizes, indicate that this low pressure proposition can be carried too far, tending to produce an impression of sluggishness, or lack of quick response. We shall a little later on be able to give you some data on the power consumption, also at lower pressures, as compared with more normal pressures. Yours faithfully, FOR THE DUNLOP RUBBER CO.LTD., W.A.Paull, Development Supt. | ||
