INTRODUCTION

WITH the introduction of Electric Lighting for the illumination of Motor Cars, Trains, etc., in which the speed of the vehicle undergoes considerable variation it is absolutely necessary that the current generated by the dynamo should be practically constant.

It is hardly within the scope of this short description to go into close details of why this constant output is necessary or desirable, but it may be briefly pointed out that if the current generated varies to any considerable extent, the lives of the batteries and lamps are seriously affected and the system as a whole produces unsatisfactory results.

The T. & M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} System in common with all other similar systems makes use of a Battery not only to regulate the voltage, but to store the current generated for use when the Dynamo is stationary.

There are various methods which endeavour to obtain a constant output; they may be briefly summarised as follows:--
