Replying to your Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}7/E.28.12.33 we have been in constant touch with Messrs.Lucas on the question of the modified headlamps. We regret to say that Messrs.Lucas failed to keep their promise to let us have a pair of these headlamps before the holidays. For test Their explanation is that they are still waiting for the correct glasses from the Manufacturing Firm in Newcastle. Apparently a set of glasses was sent to them during the holidays and the same have been mislaid, but a further set is being despatched to them this week, and during a telephone conversation with Mr.Neil of Messrs.Lucas we were promised that a pair of headlamps would be in our hands by this week-end. As soon as the lamps are available we will get them tested on a Car immediately and issue our report. We approached Messrs.Lucas with the suggestion that for the first few lamps, they should fit a plain Lucas Diffusa glass as this would considerably improve the long distance beam and would cut out the flattening of the beam due to the vertical flutes in the glass, but they have since informed us that they cannot do this with the Xl66 lamp as the fitting of such a glass would not render the lamp waterproof.
