Regarding the proposal to purchase the necessary parts for the high pressure S.U. petrol pump to assemble at Derby.

We have obtained from the S.U. Co. a reduction of 16/- in the price of the pump if this is done.

We attach a list of the parts required giving the S.U. part numbers.

In the case of the magnet unit we intend to buy this with the coil assembled and contact mechanism fitted. The S.U. Co. having the tools required.

In RHO/Jam.9/MJ.16.12.37. a saving of 8/7d. is shown, the estimated saving in material cost being 5/3d, and a saving in labour and charges in the existing cost of stripping, inspecting and testing of 3/4d. at the Works. This latter figure appears to be somewhat optimistic as in view of the fact that little time is required to strip a pump compared with the time taken to inspect, test and reassemble.

However with the test rig now supplied, and which will shortly be in use, a reduction in the testing time can be expected, and a saving of at least 16/- per pump should be obtained.
