- 2 - be issued for trial on the existing radiator, and a further design should be issued to fit the modified shell with the sharper Vee now being produced. Exhaust Fittings. We want the rubber mounted exhaust system urging through as the silencing system is reported to be satisfactory, but up to the moment has only been tested with the link mounting. We do not expect that the rubber mounting is likely to be anything but an improvement in respect to avoiding transmission of noise, but we are anxious to make sure that it is mechanically sound. A report should be issued giving the exact details of the silencing system as regards thickness of pipes and sheet, holes, baffles, etc. A report is also desired on the exhaust cutout which is now considered suitable for release on the first 15 chassis. The exhaust cutout is said to boom somewhat compared with the old Silver Ghost type, and this is to be investigated. Cylinder Head. 15 of these have been cast without bosses for water connections to the induction pipe jackets and without having a thicker floor for the higher compression. We propose to do no further work on these castings and to proceed right away with the pattern alterations. It was also decided to alter the detail of the cylinder head as regards the machining so that the high compression will be used from now on. Incidentally the valve gear push rods and cylinder studs should be should be shortened to be in line with this modification. Cylinder Blocks. It is considered that the cylinder blocks already cast will machine up to the longer dimension required for the skirts. Short Gear Lever. The gear lever made 1" shorter should be urged through for test on a car. On the third Bensport the instrument board has been pushed forward to such a position that it accommodates the original length of gear lever which was the same as the 20/25. This, however, has the disadvantage of spoiling the visibility of the speedometer, and it was agreed that the instrument board should be kept in its original position, and the 1" shorter gear lever instructed. A forging 1" shorter can be used for any type, and this should be applied to the N. scheme now being detailed in which the knob moves downwards. | ||
