S/W. C. to HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. WST r6051 Cxl/KW19.2.35. Dict.18.2.35. Speedometers for R-R and Bentley Chassis. ROY{Sir Henry Royce}8/MG11.2.35. You are of course aware of our anxiety to introduce the larger trip figures as quickly as possible on all models both R-R and Bentley. Dealing with the 40/50 h.p., the position will probably be automatically put right now that you are ordering more material for this model. Of course if you could introduce the larger trip figures on the 25 of "G" series, 5 of which have already been delivered, so much the better, but if you only introduce these larger figures after the first 25 in "G", about which there will presumably be no difficulty, then that will not be so bad. Re 20/25, you appear to be in possession of all you need for G2 except a few, and have ordered all for H2 series. Mr.Nichols of Smiths has this morning undertaken to see to what extent the later ones could be modified, (a) if possible without charge and (b) what the cost would be if a charge is made. We should like H2 series to have these larger trip figures if possible, which I understand also involves a new shaft inside the speedometer but which can be produced at the same time as the trip figures and cause no further delay. Both the shaft and the larger trip figures are suitable for the existing size of case. Would you therefore see what you are able to arrange with Smiths re H2 series. Presumably everything following on H2 series in any case will have the larger trip figures without our even specifying them. Re Bentley, when your memo was written you had 81 to be delivered of "D" series and you had ordered all "G" series. The same remarks apply to "G" as mentioned above in respect of H2 series 20/25, that is, can they be altered either with or without cost, and if with cost, how much ? I would be glad if you would let me know as soon as you can just what you are able to arrange, and the earliest date on which you can standardise these larger trip figures on all three models.
