Bosch Distributor V46 S174
A five hundred hour endurance test has been carried out on the above distributor, using a 12 voltes De'Jon coil, without ballast & resistance. The contact gaps were set to .022, which gave a make-ratio of .70 The test was carried out on standard three point spark gaps, with the distributor running at 800 RPM. The cam appears to be made of bakelite, or some hard wearing material, as the wear was negligeable The contact finger and rubbing block are formed by a single piece of spring steel, rivetted to a piece of bakelite. The rotor blade and distributor segments showed very little signs of corrosion. There was an accumulation of carbon dust on the rotor, and inside the distributor head from the high tension brush which had worn appreciably. The contact points were in excellent condition, the total wear being only .003". The distributor head is ventilated by a single .250" "hole" diameter, but there were no signs of corrosion anywhere in the distributor.
