Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X7230. BY/Cgh{W Clough}16/G.18.6.29. S.S. EXHAUST VALVE SEATINGS. With reference to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/MJ.17.7.29. we believe that the majority of the aluminium bronze valve seatings used for production have been produced from valve material having a hardness corresponding to brinell figures between 140 and 160. Nearly all the bars which we have in stock come within this range, but we find a few are as low as 120, and we are arranging that all bars which have a brinell figure below 140 shall not be used at the present time at any rate. We are also arranging for a bar of this material having a brinell of about 160 to be handed to RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} so that he can make some valve seatings for testing purposes.
