84554. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ROY{Sir Henry Royce}20/MG16.11.32 ---------------- 20/25 HP. Chassis "X" Series - 2nd 100 Nos. 101 to 200 ---------------- You will recollect it was agreed to hold in abeyance purchase of many components on this second 100 in case it was found possible to introduce modifications under consideration in time. It is now essential we proceed with purchase, and the matter has accordingly been discussed this day with BY and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, and the following provisionally agreed, subject to your approval:- (a) Resonant Silencer The Experimental Shop are issuing Standardisation Sheet forthwith covering such details; which should effect a saving, compared with our present standardised unit of ........ £5. to £6 (b) Radiators. The Experimental Shop are not yet ready to agree substitution of the film type centre in place of our present standard Honeycomb, and the saving we should have effected here of, roughly £2. 0. 0d is shelved. (c) Frames. The Experimental Shop have not tested Cold Frames sufficiently to warrant any decision here, the result being we must carry on with Hot Frames. The Cold Frames would have saved about.. £3.10. 0d (d) Modified Bijur System. The same remarks apply - in addition to which the Drawing Office are so busy they could not get out the detailed drawings in time. The saving we should have effected here approximates.. £6. 0. 0d Speaking generally, it would appear the decision to bring on the J.2 Chassis in place of the present 20/25 HP. has postponed the savings we could have effected on the 20/25 HP. Chassis as outlined in ROY{Sir Henry Royce}1/MG30.9.32 had they been duly standardised. (Continued) | ||
