We had still one more go at it and we tried a 1" bore pipe through the induction pipe longitudinally. This was fed by a 3/8" pipe and blew the gases into a little silencer we rigged up. This was a success, but wrong of course in principle. It does two things, viz., provide heat and velocity but does not take care of the petrol that just swills into 4, 5 cylinders, and that is our greatest trouble here. Cars coming in missing on 4 or 5, and we find that without altering the cylinders and pistons anyway that the overoiling, missing and every other thing disappears on making the carburation O.K.

I think the hot spot that we shall finally standardise will be just a patch on the bottom of the induction pipe fed by two 3/8" pipes interchanging.
