Re. Headlamps.

Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} has passed on to me your Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}9/GG.25.10.34...
The remarks therein are very interesting because we had independently decided to purchase a pair of these Marchal lamps for test in view of their extremely light weight.

You will be interested to know that we are carrying out a number of tests at Derby with different type headlamps and fog lamps to determine the best combination of lamps for our chassis. In connection with these tests we are having a special white folding screen made and a stand for mounting the lamps.

We have long considered that the dipping reflector type of lamp does not give the best results and we are independently developing in the Experimental Dept., a headlamp which has a double filament bulb like the Marchal Strilux but of practically double the power, i.e. 60 watt main and 48 watt dipped, as against 36 watt main and 24 watt dipped as in the Marchal Strilux. We have also modified the front glass so that the beam when dipped gives an extremely sharp cut off and a wide spread. Naturally these lamps are considerably lighter than the P.100 due to the deletion of the relatively heavy dipper unit and swivelling reflector.

It is hoped to gain useful experience from these tests and to enable us to recommend to Sales a lamp which should meet with universal approval.
