C. Dept. Dy.{F R Danby} Dept. Dy.{F R Danby} Dept. O.{Mr Oldham} Ex. of Tool Planning 600. WRAITH III. CHASSIS. REAR AXLE. SECTION 6120. REAR HUB. SECTION 617W. Please receive herewith C.CD.102 stiffened Axle Shafts and Improved Clearances for Wraith III. The Bentley ll. and Cover GB.2900 is shown instead of the one detailed to N.Sch.5459, and to give more clearance between this Nut and the End Cover, the track has been increased from 59.000 to 59.500. The Splines at the end of the Axle Shaft have been made the same as Bentley ll., and Bentley lll, and the Bentley lll, Driver GB.2772 is used. Owing to the Wheel Shell being moved outwards, the End Plate for the Brake Drum is now shown flat instead of set to give clearance as on C.CD.21. Aluminium drums may be used instead of C.I., but this will not affect the hubs and drivers. This scheme is now approved for detail and issue for six chassis at the first opportunity. We should like a further scheme preparing in which the shaft splines are increased in diameter to a dimension which will just pass through the tube, the shaft diameter being below the diameter of the bottom of the splines, and the bush in the differential is removed. This scheme is for testing on the next 10,000 mile car. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
