Cylinder Head. LOP.EB.4131.

The cylinder head has been chalk tested and both the head and rocker mechanism are in good condition.

Valves & Fittings. LOP.EB.4131

Both inlet and exhaust valves have been acid tested for cracks, and apart from slight pitting on the inlet seats and on the exhaust valve heads, are in satisfactory condition.

One inner inlet spring (E.36864 - Phantom III type) has broken at the second coil from the lower end, with consequent damage to the bottom washer, as shown on the attached photograph.

Camshaft. LOP.EB.4314.

The camshaft is slightly worn and pitted on the oil pump driving gear teeth, and slight "plucking" is evident on the inlet and petrol pump operating cams.

Slight roughness is apparent on the cam facings of several inlet tappets and No.3 exhaust tappet is broken away at the outer edge of the top face, as shown on the accompanying photograph. This is due to fouling between the tappet and the front radius of No.3 camshaft bearing boss.

The condition of the camshaft mechanism is otherwise satisfactory.

Oil Pump and Drive. LOP.EB.3908.

The oil pump driving shaft is scored on the diameter at the top housing bush position and the top driving gear is slightly worn and scored on the teeth.

The oil pump unit is otherwise in satisfactory condition.

Timing Gears.

Condition good.

Water Pump.

Except for rather heavy corrosion on the SKF. rotor spindle similar to that previously reported in Bentley 60 No.1 Unit, the water pump unit is in good condition.
