Modifications :- (1) Oil baffle in the lower half of crankcase, which consisted of a flat sheet of alum. extending the length of the crankcase, fastened just clear of the oil pipes and parallel to the bottom. (2) Three white metalled main bearings Nos. 1, 4 and 7 i.e. two ends and centre - the remainder being Kelmet U.S.A. The engine was run light for 3 hrs. at 900 r.p.m. (approx.) after which - 55 mins. at 9/10ths. power and 5 mins. full throttle (2200 r.p.m.) - and then 1 hr. 55 mins. at 9/10ths. power and 5 mins. full throttle, (2200 r.p.m.) The oil consumption being - 1st. hr. 25.5 pts/hr. or .0318 pts.HP.hr. 2nd.
