EFC. WC.99. WATFORD EW6 MAGNETO No.105302. This magneto has now completed an endurance test in the laboratory having been run at 1450 r.p.m. for 125 hours and at 2900 r.p.m. for 312 hours, the total equivalent mileage on a chassis being 21,000. The magneto was lubricated every 10 hours. Upon examining the magneto after the run, we found it to be in a good condition mechanically. The distributor had tracked rather badly on one segment, and it was found necessary to clean the distributor two or three times during the run. The slip ring also was badly carboned up. Contrary to expectations the contact breaker points functioned satisfactorily without any appreciable burning away or wear. Upon testing it on the bench after the test we found the magneto to be rather poor at low speeds, although O.K. at high speeds, the low speed retarded figure being 195 r.p.m. In conclusion we consider the magneto to have undergone this test very satisfactorily. These bench conditions are much more favourable, however, to the magneto than those obtaining on a chassis and in due course a report will be made after prolonged chassis tests on other EW6 magnetos.
