To: "Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}", DERBY. 84013. SEVRES Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}6/Dn29.11.32 French Accessories. I was talking to "Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}" the other day of the advisability, or otherwise, of fitting certain French parts to chassis in France. "Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}" was in sympathy to our trying certain French parts to our chassis, provided that it in no way interfered with the performance of the chassis. If we can do this, it will help us in a small way in two directions. It helps us to show the French buyer that we utilise when possible his country's manufactures. It enables us to reduce slightly the price at which the chassis is invoiced by us, and consequently there is a small reduction in the import duties. There is also a third reason, and that is that the French authorities have enforced a quota system on the importation of all electrical goods into France, and at present we are not able to import any batteries or spares from England until the beginning of next year. The articles I have in mind are as follows: Tyres, Lamps, Batteries, Wheel Discs, Bumpers. It occurs to me that whilst Peregrins are being tested at Chateauroux, we might take the opportunity of testing the car on a set of Michelin Tyres. I should say the best thing is to buy tyres in the ordinary way a purchaser would buy a set of tyres, fit them to the car, and give them a test without the knowledge of the Michelin Company. Would you kindly let me know what you think about this question, and if we have the authority of the powers that be to buy a French battery suitable for our chassis, and of the right size. The other parts I have mentioned are not so important, as we usually supply these French made accessories "Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}". WST | ||
