1124? Engineering Laboratory, Cambridge. TELEPHONE No 4495. (2 LINES.) 8th.August, 1938 W.A.Robotham, Esq. Rolls Royce Ltd. DERBY. Dear Robotham, Many thanks for your letter of the 2nd.inst. I think chromium plating a most promising method of bore treatment, and as perhaps you know, the most successful results have been obtained with rough turned bores plated to about a half a thousandth with chromium. Smooth bores are not satisfactory as oil has so little adsorption with chromium. Maurice Wilkes, chief engineer of Rovers, has done a lot of work on this subject which I recently discussed with him, and if you have not already contacted it might interest you to find out just how far Rovers have got with this work. Shall look forward to seeing you again at Derby when I next have to come up. Yours sincerely, [Signature] | ||
